Way to Produce High-Quality Palm EFB Briquettes

One of SIMEC’s long-term clients operates a biomass power plant that uses palm EFB as its primary feedstock. For years, the client from Thailand has struggled to efficiently process high-moisture, high-toughness palm EFB for boiler fuel. This fluffy, fibrous material features an extremely low bulk density, which has consequently led to low combustion efficiency, massive storage issues and steadily surging operational costs.

In order to improve combustion efficiency and lower the fuel processing costs, the client decided to densify the palm EFB into briquettes by adopting SIMEC palm EFB briquetting technology.
Following a rigorous technical evaluation, the client invested in a 4.5–5 tph palm EFB briquette production line. This briquetting plant comprises the following units:
· SCM1400/600 Palm EFB Shredding System
· SBP6KA Palm EFB Briquetting System
· Automatic Briquette Cooling & Packing System

To ensure a steady, high-efficiency fuel supply for their powder plant, the Thai client requires 32×32 mm palm EFB briquettes. To meet this requirement, the bulky clumps of palm EFB fiber are first shredded into short fibers (under 30 mm) by SIMEC heavy-duty shredder. This refined pre-treatment ensures consistent briquette quality, high density, sustained combustion performance, and easier storage.

Before delivery, SIMEC conducted a rigorous pre-shipment test for both the palm EFB shredder and the briquetting machine to ensure all details complied with the specified project blueprints. For reference, please view the palm EFB briquetting test video:

Raw Material: Shredded palm EFB fiber ( length ≤30mm, moisture 38%~43%).
Finished Briquettes: rectangular shape, dimension 32 x 32 mm.

The briquetting test met all expected targets, with test results listed below:
1. The SIMEC SBP6KA briquetting machine delivered stable and reliable performance.
2. The produced 32×32 mm palm EFB briquettes feature smooth surfaces, complete forming and high density.
3. An output of 4–4.5 tph was achieved.

The innovative SIMEC SBP6KA palm EFB briquetting machine is a precision-engineered solution for biomass waste recycling. It transforms pretreated empty fruit bunch (EFB) fibers into high-density briquettes. With this unit, palm oil mills and biofuel manufacturers can convert palm residues into premium, eco-friendly solid fuel.

The SBP6KA Palm EFB Briquetting Machine supplied to the Thai customer has the following outstanding advantages:
1. Broad raw material compatibility: suitable for fibrous materials with 15%–30% moisture content and a particle size of 10–30 mm.
2. A custom German countershaft gearbox delivers stable, high-efficiency power transmission to sustain consistent EFB briquette throughput.
3. An automatic lubrication system enables smooth running and cuts down maintenance expenses.
4. Forming dies and compression rollers are made of high-grade wear-resistant alloy steel for extended service life.
5. Material-tailored die compression ratios ensure a high molding rate and uniform briquette density.
6. An integrated heating module boosts briquetting efficiency and maintains stable product quality.
7. A reliable overload protection system prevents unplanned downtime and safeguards both equipment and operators.
