Biomass Pyrolysis

This biomass pyrolysis research platform is the 5th-generation product of SIMEC. It enables full-process research on biomass pyrolysis, supporting the R&D for biochar, activated carbon, bio-oil and syngas engineering. Propane is used as the startup heat source for the pyrolysis reactor. Once the pyrolysis reaction starts, syngas produced from biomass will provide self-sustaining heat to keep the process running continuously.
 
The research platform consists of the following major components:
· Moving-bed pyrolysis reactor.
· Thermal air oxidation module.
· Automatic monitoring unit of biochar yield.
· Syngas condensation & purification system.
· Syngas online monitoring and analysis module.
· Syngas reforming module.

The PLC control cabinet integrates a comprehensive data logging module, remote monitoring & control module, research equipment management system and process temperature & pressure monitoring system. All components are installed, wired and commissioned at SIMEC workshop, then delivered as a ready-to-operate unit.
