Welding robot is a kind of industrial robot engaged in welding (including cutting and spraying). According to the term defined by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO)，welding robot is a kind of multi-used repeatable programming automatic control manipulator which has three or more programmable shafts and used in the field of industrial automation. In order to adapt to different uses, the robot is the mechanical interface of the last shaft, usually a connecting flange which can be connected to different tools or the end effector. Welding robot is an industrial robot assembled welding tongs or Welding (cutting) gun at the end of the shaft flange, making it able to welding, cutting or thermal spraying.
The welding robots include two parts, one part is welding equipment and another part is robot. The robot consists of a robot body and a control cabinet (hardware and software). While welding equipment, using welding and spot welding as an example, is made up of welding source (including its control system), wire feeding machine (arc welding), welding gun (Pliers) and so on. Smart robot shall have sensing system such as a laser or camera sensor and control devices, etc.
