On December 1, 2024, a ship carrying biochar research system set off from Qingdao to Valencia, Spain.
The Biochar & PyCCS research system uses the latest SIMEC technology to study biochar, bioslurry and its applications in carbon capture & sequestration. A variety of local biomass feedstock in Spain will be pyrolyzed and converted into biochar, including pruning waste of various trees, vines, olive trees; pine chips, olive pulp, and waste of other trees: poplar, oak, holm oak, etc.

Biochar & PyCCS research system consists of pyrolysis reactor, inert atmosphere maintain system, biochar cooler, biochar tank, syngas drying and purification unit, syngas analyzer, PLC control cabinet, data logger that can generate curve graphs, process monitoring system for pyrolysis temperatures, pressure, gas temperature and gas production rate, etc. Far distance monitoring and control system has also been integrated in the biochar research system. This benefits both the researchers and after-sales service of SIMEC. Syngas analyzer enables the researcher to gain complete data of synthetic gas, such as composition, proportion, thermal value, etc., and to graph dynamic data curves.

SIMEC technology can avoid condensation at gas and biochar separation zone. Low PAHs of biochar can be achieved and meet with EBC standard. All of the mechanical and electrical components were mounted on specially designed operation platform, and commissioned before delivery. SIMEC provide technical support both on-site and remote through PLC based far distance control and monitoring system which is integrated with the biochar research system.
